As a nation, we can grow and prosper if the foundation that we lay today is firm and stable. There will be clarity of thought and one-pointed attention if only there is internal and external stability. With stability and peace one can become acheivers and will reach heights as what our great rishis acheived thousands of years ago.Acharya Sankara’s doctrine not only makes one selfless but also aids in internal stability.

Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya

What is come to be called as Hinduism today is actually Sanatana Dharma. It encompasses the divinely revealed eternal principles of life described in Vedas, puranas and other holy scriptures. While guiding us in the right path of life, Sanatana Dharma ultimately puts us in touch with god - the eternal unchanging reality behind the seemingly infinite variety that we see all around us. Sanatana Dharma is the core reason for the greatness of our ancient civilization and for the balanced and contented life of its followers. It is the great link that binds us to the India of ancient times. It is because of Sanatana Dharma, that India is the only country in the world whose dominant religion and culture remains unbroken for thousands of years now despite multitude of difficult situations. Its message and principles are as relevant today as thousands of years ago and they will continue to resonate forever.

Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism is vibrant today largely due to the efforts of Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Adi Shankaracharya, the great philosopher saint, who lived over 1200 years ago. In his brief life of 32 years, he restored the pristine glory of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy of the Upanishads and re-established the path through which everyone can experience and become one with divinity. Seldom in history has one individual had so much influence on a nation, its civilization and its religion.

During his time Sanatana Dharma was threatened by atheism, multiple philosophies and incorrect and even anti vedic interpretations. Sri Sri Sri Jagadguru Adishankaracharya worked relentlessly towards producing a synthesis of these currents that were causing conflicts in the minds of many Indians at that time. His efforts in evolving a unified vision out of the multiplicity culminated in the world’s greatest, clearest articulation of the ADVAITA VEDANTA. As a result, historians agree that Sanatana Dharma survived these many challenges and was rejuvenated mainly because of the Sri Adi Shankara's brilliant and energetic efforts. We must be deeply grateful to him for his unequalled accomplishment. Adi Shankaracharya established spiritual Mutts on the four sides of India. They were quite strategically placed one each at North, East, West, South - to make sure the religion can be managed in all parts of the Bharat. Each of these Mutts had a spiritual guru (called the Shankaracharya) and each of those gurus was responsible for making sure there is a lineage. Thus, 1200 years of unbroken lineage was achieved in all these four Mutts.
